About Swad in Bloom
Swad in Bloom is a community-led group that brings people together to improve Swadlincote through gardening, sustainability, and creativity. We’re part of the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign and believe that small actions can create a big difference in how our town looks, feels, and thrives.
Our Mission
We aim to:
Create cleaner, greener public spaces
Build a sense of pride and belonging in Swadlincote
Encourage community participation and volunteering
Reduce social isolation and promote wellbeing
Share knowledge about horticulture and sustainability
Support the local economy through increased visitor appeal
Swad in Bloom is open to everyone, whether you can give an hour or a season, your help matters.
Swad in Bloom & Britain in Bloom
Swad in Bloom is proud to be part of RHS Britain in Bloom, the UK’s largest community gardening campaign.
Britain in Bloom began in 1963 as a way to encourage civic pride through floral displays and cleaner streets. Originally started by the British Tourist Authority to boost tourism, it has since grown into a nationwide movement run by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
Today, over 1,600 towns, cities, villages and neighbourhoods across the UK take part every year, celebrating:
Horticultural excellence
Community involvement
Environmental responsibility
Through Britain in Bloom, we get the chance to showcase Swadlincote’s strengths, gain feedback from expert judges, and celebrate the achievements of our volunteers.
It’s not just about flowers, it’s about bringing people together, caring for our town, and creating lasting change.
